In a recent interview with AYV News, US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan Hunt, addressed concerns about political interference in the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s leadership election. Ambassador Hunt emphasized the importance of political neutrality in the electoral process.
He stressed that the Bar Association election should not be influenced by political affiliations, whether with the APC or SLPP. Instead, the focus should be on selecting individuals capable of effectively managing an association dedicated to upholding the rule of law and promoting human rights.
Ambassador Hunt urged political parties to refrain from involvement in the election process, emphasizing that they should not interfere or exert influence on the outcome. His comments follow allegations of irregularities and the perceived hijacking of the recent Sierra Leone Bar Association Annual General Meeting and leadership election. Concerns have been raised about actions favoring a candidate perceived to be aligned with the government.
