On Monday, Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack across Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and resulting in at least three deaths. The assault, starting around midnight and continuing into the morning, marked Russia’s largest offensive in weeks.
Ukraine’s air force reported multiple drone groups moving towards various regions, followed by cruise and ballistic missiles. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, where Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed disruptions to power and water supplies. In response, the city will open “points of invincibility” for residents to charge devices and access refreshments during blackouts, a measure first introduced in fall 2022.
In Lutsk, a residential building and other infrastructure were struck, killing one person. Another death occurred in Dnipropetrovsk, where fires and extensive damage affected multiple households. Zaporizhzhia saw another fatality and an infrastructure fire, while the Mykolaiv region reported three injuries and a call for residents to use “points of invincibility.” In the Kyiv region, an attack on infrastructure and homes resulted in one injury.
DTEK, Ukraine’s energy company, imposed emergency blackouts as repairs continue. In response, Poland activated NATO air defenses due to the attack’s proximity.
In Russia, officials reported a Ukrainian drone attack causing four injuries in Saratov, with drones hitting residential areas in two cities. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed interception of 22 Ukrainian drones over eight regions.
