Sierra Leone U-20 Women Secure 2-0 Win Over Liberia in Mano River Tournament

Sierra Leone’s U-20 female football team triumphed 2-0 over Liberia on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in their second match of the ongoing Mano River Union Female Football Tournament. This victory follows their 0-0 draw against Guinea in the opening match on December 2.

After a goalless first half, Adama Mansaray broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. Sarah Turay sealed the win in the 86th minute, solidifying Sierra Leone’s position at the top of the standings with 4 points. Guinea holds second place with 1 point, while Liberia remains winless.

The tournament aims to promote women’s football and regional unity, as emphasized by key dignitaries like Madam Haja Ramatulai Kamara of the Sierra Leone Football Association and Madam Fatoumata Binta Berete of Guinea’s Female Football Committee. The next match between Guinea and Liberia takes place today, December 4, at Wusum Field, Makeni.

Madam Kamara highlighted the tournament’s role in fostering talent and empowerment, stating, “This is about building bridges and empowering women through sports.”
