On Sunday, Nigerian lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh was caught on video assaulting Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, who delivered a package to him in Abuja’s Maitama district. The viral footage shows Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and South Constituency (APGA), repeatedly slapping and verbally attacking the driver after Abuwatseya asked him to collect his delivery outside.
Ikwechegh berated the driver for “disrespect” and allegedly threatened him, boasting of his influence and saying he could make the driver “disappear” without consequence. When Abuwatseya requested the delivery fee, Ikwechegh slapped him again, taunting that the driver “could do nothing” about it and challenging him to publicize the incident.
This incident follows Ikwechegh’s recent reinstatement in the House of Representatives after a tribunal annulled the Labour Party candidate Emeka Nnamani’s election victory due to certificate forgery.
