Ecobank Sierra Leone and the National Minerals Agency (NMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the country’s mining sector through collaboration, financial solutions, and streamlined processes. The agreement was signed by Ecobank’s Managing Director, Sebastian Ashong-Katai, and NMA’s Director of Mines, Peter K. Bangura, at NMA’s headquarters.
Ashong-Katai expressed Ecobank’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s mining industry, highlighting their 17-year history in the country and their role in providing financing, payment solutions, and foreign exchange services to mining companies. He noted that this partnership will enhance Ecobank’s visibility and strengthen its position as a key financial partner in the sector.
Ibrahim Satti Kamara, NMA’s Director of Communication and Community Affairs, emphasized the partnership’s potential to boost transparency and efficiency in the industry. He highlighted plans for a digital platform enabling foreign investors to apply and pay fees online, streamlining processes for both local and international players.
This partnership represents a milestone in aligning financial and regulatory expertise to foster growth in Sierra Leone’s mining sector, improving accessibility, and attracting new investment to the industry.
