The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Bo has launched a project to improve conditions at the Bo West Division Police Holding Facility. Led by Bo District CSO Chairman Joseph Dominic Blakie, and backed by human rights advocate Emmanuel Thomas, the initiative involves the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and Ministry of Health. Efforts include fumigation, refurbishing, and deep cleaning to address detainee welfare.
Blakie emphasized the project’s goal to uphold detainees’ basic rights, stating, “We’re working with partners to ensure detainees are treated with respect and dignity.” Following Bo West’s upgrade, the team aims to expand to Bo East, establishing standards for humane custodial care across the region. This collaboration serves as a model for civil society and government cooperation, highlighting the importance of human rights and dignity in law enforcement.
