The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) displayed NLe15 million in cash on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat corruption. The money, recovered from Salim Mansaray, a former Ecobank employee, is part of NLe34 million misappropriated from the National Revenue Authority (NRA). While NLe15 million has been retrieved, Ecobank has agreed to repay the remaining NLe19 million in monthly installments starting in January 2025.
ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala clarified that Ecobank was not involved in the theft and praised the bank’s cooperation. He also stressed the importance of accountability in addressing corruption and urged Sierra Leoneans to support the ACC’s work.
Mansaray, who fled to Dubai after the theft, had his accounts frozen and has since been convicted and fined. Kaifala vowed to pursue justice for the stolen funds, emphasizing his commitment to protecting the nation’s resources.
Patrick Sandi, Director of Public Education, highlighted that this is the second time the ACC has publicly displayed recovered funds, showcasing its efforts in the fight against corruption. The decision on how to use the recovered funds will be made by President Julius Maada Bio.
