Recent scrutiny by the Public Accounts Committee has highlighted concerns over Sierra Leone Commercial Bank’s (SLCB) loan practices, particularly regarding politically exposed persons (PEPs). An audit revealed loans totaling SLE 41,448,000 disbursed to PEPs by December 31, 2022, without clear policies in place.

In response, Victor Thomas Biandoma, Esq., SLCB’s Director of Corporate Affairs, defended the bank’s actions, stressing that all loans mentioned in the Auditor General’s report underwent thorough scrutiny aligned with the bank’s strict credit policies. He assured stakeholders of the institution’s commitment to transparency and diligent loan evaluation processes, which consider factors such as strong credit histories and viable business plans.

Furthermore, Biandoma addressed ongoing investigations into any allegations of impropriety, underscoring SLCB’s dedication to upholding its reputation for financial integrity. The bank remains steadfast in its governance framework, ensuring accountability and maintaining trust among its customers and the public.
