A man identified as Mohamed Habib Bawoh was arrested around 5:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in possession of a locally made pistol, two single-barrel cartridges, and a knife.
Bawoh, a resident of 24 Dama Road, was apprehended at the Dama Road checkpoint in Kenema during a routine search. The checkpoint officers discovered the dangerous items on him, leading to his immediate arrest.
Authorities have taken Bawoh and the confiscated weapons into custody for further investigation. Police spokesperson John Koroma stated, “The arrest was made possible due to the vigilance of our officers. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community.”
The incident has raised concerns among local residents about the proliferation of homemade firearms and other weapons in the area. Community leaders have urged the police to intensify their efforts in curbing the spread of illegal arms.
Bawoh’s motives for carrying the weapons remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing to determine if he is linked to any criminal activities in the region. The police have called on the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Kenema police have increased their patrols and checkpoint inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
