Sierra Leone’s Youth Envoy, Yulisa Ahmadu, concluded a one-day Diaspora Youth Summit in the United States on Africa Day, bringing together young people to discuss the country’s development. The event was organized by the Office of the Youth Envoy in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Embassy in the USA, and in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Plan International, and the Petroleum Regulatory Agency of Sierra Leone.
Ahmadu explained that the summit aimed to unite Sierra Leonean youth in the diaspora to collaborate and strategize on the country’s development. The event featured panel discussions with youth experts on various development topics, alongside professionals who spoke on the use of technology and digital tools to advance Sierra Leone. Additionally, sessions focused on the entertainment industry, featuring Sierra Leonean artists and fashion designers discussing its potential to benefit both themselves and the country.
Ahmadu urged diaspora youth to support those at home, emphasizing their role as ambassadors for Sierra Leone. “You are the true ambassadors of Sierra Leone, and as youth, the power lies with us. We all have diverse stories on how we got here—some by road, others by air. We represent our families,” he said. He called on them to unite and contribute to the nation’s development.
