Backed by support from the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority, the Sierra Leone National Amputee Football Team has set off on a significant journey from Freetown International Airport to Egypt. Their destination? The African Amputee Football Nations Cup 2024, where they aim to compete at the highest level.
Abraham J. Bangura, the head Coach of the Sierra Leone Amputee Football Team, had previously unveiled his 21-man squad in anticipation of this prestigious tournament in Egypt.
The bustling city of Cairo is gearing up to host the African Amputee Football Nations Cup 2024, scheduled from April 19th to April 28th, 2024. Foday James Lumeh, the team’s captain and a seasoned amputee footballer representing Pendik Football Club in Istanbul, Turkey, conveyed his deep appreciation and unyielding optimism. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone for generously supporting the delegation through the National Sports Authority.
Comprised of skilled players hailing from various regions such as Kailahun, Makeni, Freetown, and Maforki, among others, the team is ready to represent Sierra Leone with pride on the continental stage.
Sierra Leone has been placed in Group D alongside strong adversaries Angola and Tanzania, following Rwanda’s unexpected withdrawal from the tournament.
The team’s journey in the competition commences with a highly anticipated match against Angola, a two-time champion, scheduled for Sunday.”
