Sierra Leone’s U20 football team, the Shooting Stars, made history on September 25, 2024, by defeating The Gambia 3-0 in the WAFU A’ U20 semi-finals, securing their spot in the 2025 TotalEnergies U20 AFCON qualifiers and advancing to the tournament final.
Captain Mohamed I. Kamara led the way with a crucial goal, supported by strikes from Idriss Sesay and Samuel Ghandi. This victory marks their third win in four matches, as Kamara’s third goal in the tournament also puts him in contention for the top scorer title.
Under coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara, the Shooting Stars reached the WAFU A’ final for the first time and will face Senegal on September 30. Coach Kamara credited the team’s success to the support of the Sierra Leone Football Association and the government, highlighting their journey through U15 and U17 levels. Confident ahead of the final, he said, “We’re on a mission to bring home the trophy.”
