FIFA has banned Cameroon soccer legend Samuel Eto’o from attending any national team games for six months. The sanction follows two charges stemming from an incident during the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on September 11, where Brazil defeated Cameroon 3-1 in the round of 16.
FIFA cited Eto’o’s breach of disciplinary rules related to “offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play” as well as misconduct towards officials. The ban prevents him from attending matches involving Cameroon teams across all categories and age groups, including crucial qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Eto’o, who has served as the president of the Cameroon Soccer Federation since 2021, is a celebrated figure in soccer, having played in four World Cups (1998-2014) and scoring a record 56 goals for the Indomitable Lions. He was part of the teams that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002 and achieved remarkable success in club football, including three Champions League titles with Barcelona and Inter Milan.
