The Mogbwemo Queens, Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League double champions from Rutile, are ramping up their training for the upcoming CAF Women’s Championship, scheduled for August 2-22, 2024. The tournament will take place at the Southern Arena Stadium in Bo.
In preparation, the team has bolstered their squad with the addition of two foreign players: Nadi Quade, an attacking midfielder from Guinea-Bissau, and Ativor Holali, an attacker from Ghana. Mogbwemo Queens are the first club from Sierra Leone to compete twice in the CAF Women’s Championship, having debuted in Liberia after their 2022/2023 league win. They return this year following another undefeated league victory.
Head coach Adama Suma reflected on last year’s experience as a valuable learning opportunity, being the first time a Sierra Leonean female team competed in the tournament. “I’m preparing my team to correct all our previous mistakes and deliver the results that our supporters are hoping for,” she stated. She also noted that new Sierra Leonean players have been included in the squad to enhance the team’s performance.
