The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, embarked on an impromptu visit to the Police Hospital at Kingtom, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the well-being of police personnel.
This visit, coinciding with International Labour Day on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, was aimed at evaluating the medical services provided to police officers and ensuring prompt treatment for injuries sustained during active service.
Throughout his inspection of the hospital’s various departments, such as Triage, Outpatient, Male & Female wards, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Labour room & Maternity ward, and Theater, Mr. Sellu expressed contentment with the performance of the police medical staff. He lauded their commitment and highlighted significant investments in medical supplies and equipment to elevate service standards.
Mr. Sellu stressed that his support extended beyond Freetown to encompass the North, South, and Eastern provinces of Sierra Leone, guaranteeing equitable access to top-notch healthcare for police personnel nationwide.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Inspector General recognized the invaluable contribution of a Spanish medical team who generously provided surgical expertise to the police hospital on a pro bono basis. Their efforts resulted in 150 surgeries conducted on police officers, their families, and members of the community, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in healthcare provision.
Reflecting on his observations, Mr. Sellu reiterated his commitment to enhancing the hospital’s facilities, promising to procure additional equipment for the laboratory and other departments. He reaffirmed his determination to ensure that police personnel receive optimal medical care, thereby fortifying their capacity to effectively serve “Mama Salone.”
