The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently conducted visitation checks at Koidu Limited and Socfin Agricultural Company in Kono District and Sahn Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District. The purpose of the visits was to assess the companies’ compliance with environmental policies and their social obligations.
Dr. Alfred Morie Saffa, the Board Director, emphasized the Board’s responsibility to provide policy guidance to ensure the efficient performance of the agency’s functions as outlined in Section 9(2) of the EPA Act of 2022. He highlighted that reviewing periodic reports and conducting such visits help the Board understand the agency’s effectiveness in regulating its proponents. The EPA aims to position itself as a leader in environmental innovation and solutions by 2030, guided by its Transformation Strategy (2024-2030). This strategy focuses on addressing operational challenges, meeting international legal obligations, and adhering to environmental standards.
