Barcelona has bid farewell to Xavi just a month after persuading him to stay in his managerial role. The Spanish football icon had initially expressed his intention to depart the club at the season’s end but had a change of heart. Now, former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick is poised to take over.

Xavi, aged 44, will oversee Barcelona’s final match of the season against Sevilla this Sunday before parting ways with the club. The decision to remove Xavi comes despite Barcelona’s efforts to retain him following his initial plan to leave. According to reports from Sky in Germany, Barcelona has verbally agreed with Flick to assume the coaching role. The club intends to make an official announcement regarding Xavi’s replacement in the coming days.

In a statement, the Catalan club expressed gratitude to Xavi for his contributions as both a coach and a legendary player and captain, wishing him success in his future endeavors.

Xavi’s tenure at Barcelona saw the team secure second place in the table, trailing champions Real Madrid by 12 points as they head into the final day of the season. While leading the team to the Champions League quarter-finals, they were ultimately defeated by Paris Saint-Germain. During his time as manager, Xavi clinched the LaLiga title in 2023 and also secured the Spanish Super Cup shortly after.
