Ascentonians FC kicked off the 2024 SLFA Women’s Division One Playoff with an emphatic 5-1 win over Rising Queens on November 5, at the SLFA Academy Field in Kingtom.
Rising Queens opened the scoring early, with Maseray Turay netting in the 10th minute. However, Ascentonians quickly responded. Princes Bangura equalized in the 32nd minute, followed by a lead-taking goal from Mariama Soumah in the 39th minute, wrapping up the first half at 2-1.
Ascentonians intensified their play in the second half. Aminata Massaquoi extended the lead in the 63rd minute, with Soumah scoring again in the 79th, making it 4-1. Fatu Kamara sealed the victory with a final goal in the 86th minute.
This commanding win sets a strong tone for Ascentonians FC, who next face Koidu United on November 7. Rising Queens, aiming for a comeback, meet SRFA FC on November 6, while Bernys FC and Koidu United also clash in another key game. Ascentonians’ performance underscores their readiness to claim the top spot in this year’s competition.
