A shipment of 560 customized cricket match balls has arrived in Sierra Leone to support the development of domestic leagues and prevent shortages during the season. The consignment will cover Cricket Sierra Leone’s (CSL) remaining 2024 activities and kickstart the 2025 season in January.
Of the total, 240 balls are specifically tailored for women’s cricket. CSL Board Chairman, Francis Trevor Samura, highlighted the significance, noting, “Women have traditionally used men’s balls, which disadvantaged them. For international tournaments, they require smaller balls like the ones ordered, which will positively impact their performance. This purchase resolves that issue.”
Additionally, CSL received a modern cricket bowling machine from the Emirates Cricket Board. This donation, made after discussions between Chairman Samura and the Emirates Cricket Federation in Rwanda, will enhance training, particularly for the FBC Project. Chairman Samura expressed gratitude for the donation and hopes for ongoing support from the Emirates Cricket Federation.
