Despite this optimism, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura issued a cautionary note, highlighting the forecast of additional rainfall in the coming month. He underscored the threat of intensified flooding in certain areas, amplifying the urgency of preparedness and response efforts.
Tragically, the toll of the recent floods remains severe, with Mai Mahiu, situated 20 miles north of Nairobi, bearing a heavy burden. The community endured devastating losses earlier in the week, with at least 71 lives lost and numerous individuals still unaccounted for. In the past 24 hours alone, ten Kenyans succumbed to the flooding, raising the official government death toll to 179, including 15 children.
