The University of Sierra Leone Communications Directorate has informed the public that the University Court received a correspondence on May 15, 2024, from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) to investigate financial and administrative irregularities at USL from 2018 to 2023. Before the dissolution of the University Court in January 2024, MTHE, following advice from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), was instructed to:
- Dissolve the University Court immediately.
- Annul all decisions or resolutions made by the Court from December 11, 2023, until its dissolution.
- Establish an oversight committee to manage the University until a new Court is formed.
- Conduct an investigation into the irregularities.
According to the USL Communications Directorate, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Court will soon provide updates on the investigation committee, including its procedures, processes, and commencement date, in accordance with the Universities Act 2021, USL HR policy, University Ordinance, USL conditions of service, financial manual, and related instruments.
