Statistics SL Welcomes 2025 Census Adviser

Sierra Leone has appointed Edouard Talnan as the new Census Technical Adviser (CTA) to support the country’s 2025 Population and Housing Census (PHC). Introduced by UNFPA Deputy Country Representative Sibeso Mululuma on November 22, 2024, at the Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) office, Talnan brings extensive experience, including overseeing Liberia’s recent census.

UNFPA Country Representative Nadia Rasheed emphasized the census’s importance for national planning, pledging technical and logistical support. She also announced plans for a Census Assessment Team to design a roadmap for the process.

Statistician General Andrew Bob Johnny highlighted preparations, including the establishment of committees and a Census Secretariat. He expressed confidence in delivering an accurate and inclusive census, supported by the government, development partners, and UNFPA.

Stats SL Council Chairman Moses Williams assured Talnan of a collaborative environment, affirming that the 2025 census would provide essential data for Sierra Leone’s development.
