SL Women’s Premier League Kicks Off in December with Top Prizes

The Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League (WPL) has announced its 2024/2025 season will begin on December 21, 2024, in Kenema. The league promises thrilling competition with attractive cash prizes: NLe 400,000 for the champions and NLe 300,000 for the runners-up.

Speaking at a press conference on November 29, 2024, WPL Chairperson Catherine Sillah emphasized the league’s focus on player welfare and development. Matches will take place on artificial pitches in Kenema, Bo, Port Loko, Makeni, and Freetown, ensuring high-quality playing conditions.

This season will feature 12 teams, with plans to reduce to 10 by 2025/2026 to improve league quality and talent development. The WPL Board is also enhancing player data management and transfer regulations, supported by FIFA Connect training from the SLFA.

Sillah thanked the government for its support and urged media houses to amplify women’s football, aiming to inspire the next generation of female players.
