On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) opened a new state-of-the-art medical facility in Mattru Jong, Bonthe District for police personnel and their families. This development is part of Inspector General (IGP) Sellu’s initiative to improve healthcare for officers across the country, complementing the recent construction of a modern police station in the area.
Dr. John M Konteh, Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent, presented the new medical equipment and highlighted recent advancements under IGP Sellu, including free surgeries for over 500 police personnel and their families by Spanish medical teams, and a nationwide hepatitis testing campaign. The new health centre will feature a qualified Community Health Officer (CHO), trained nurses, and a Community Health Assistant (CHA), and will include departments for infectious diseases, maternal, and pediatric care.
Deputy Superintendent Mr. Mahmoud T.S. Konneh and Chief Superintendent Mr. Augustine Kabia praised the facility for improving healthcare access for police officers. Key stakeholders, including District Medical Officer Dr. Brima Bobson Sesay and Bonthe District Council Chairperson Madam Isiatu Conteh, also expressed their support and highlighted the importance of sustainability and transparency.
Lamin Moiwo from Kingtom Hospital detailed the advanced medical equipment available, while Police Constable 17466 Abdulai Conteh was introduced as the officer in charge. Additional medical personnel will be deployed to ensure comprehensive healthcare services at the new centre.
