Three days after a tragic shipwreck near Mbour claimed over 125 lives, search operations continue with slim hopes of finding survivors. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited the site, expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to the affected families. He condemned human trafficking networks for exploiting desperate youth with false promises of a better life.
Critics, including MP Moussa Diakhaté, argue the government has failed to address youth unemployment, a root cause of migration. Diakhaté also highlighted the role of parents who contributed financially to these dangerous journeys.
So far, 40 bodies have been recovered, with 4 survivors, and around 50 remain missing. The government has pledged to hold traffickers accountable and take decisive action to combat human trafficking as the nation mourns.
