Sallu Kamuskay, CEO of Salone Messenger, has been awarded a certificate by BBC Media Action in partnership with UNDP, after completing a two-month intensive fellowship on tackling misinformation and hate speech. Out of 60 participants, Kamuskay was recognized as one of four standout fellows. The training, led by Lazar Covs, a BBC Media Action Serbia journalist, and Marie Helly, a former BBC journalist, concluded with a ceremony on November 8, 2024, at New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.
Expressing gratitude, Kamuskay emphasized the media’s responsibility in shaping information, saying, “We live in a world where information is power.” With Salone Messenger, Sierra Leone’s trusted platform for stories of change-makers, Kamuskay has dedicated his career to authentic storytelling since 2014.
Adbein Smith, Project Manager at BBC Media Action, underscored the importance of the skills gained by participants, describing them as “gatekeepers” for quality content. SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla praised the fellows, highlighting their role in combating misinformation and promoting professional ethics amidst challenges facing journalism today.
