The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Sierra Leone has scheduled a Stakeholder Consultative Meeting to discuss the draft Public Service Policy on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, at the Foreign Service Academy, Tower Hill, Freetown. This significant meeting is a vital step towards improving and modernizing public service delivery in the country.
The meeting’s main goal is to collect insights, feedback, and recommendations from various stakeholders to ensure the draft Public Service Policy aligns with their needs and expectations. The PSC aims to develop a policy that addresses current public service demands and anticipates future challenges and opportunities through an inclusive approach.
The draft Public Service Policy aims to establish the PSC as the leading authority on human resource policies, providing regulatory and oversight functions in managing the Public Service. It will form the basis for a comprehensive legal framework governing Public Service management in Sierra Leone.
Key objectives of the draft policy include defining the institutional relationships between the PSC and other Commissions and Agencies with similar mandates, expanding the PSC’s regulatory and oversight responsibilities, and enacting the first Public Service Act of Sierra Leone. The policy also calls for revising the Public Service Regulations of 1982 to incorporate modern human resource management practices.
Additionally, the draft policy emphasizes the importance of integrating gender and disability issues and digitalization into ongoing Public Service reforms.
