Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio recently addressed the United Nations Summit of the Future, representing the g7+ countries—a coalition of nations with shared experiences of conflict and fragility.
In his speech, President Bio outlined six key priorities to strengthen the g7+ position within the Pact for the Future. He emphasized the need for national ownership and inclusive governance to empower nations in controlling their development agendas. He called for sustainable development that balances economic growth with environmental protection.
President Bio also highlighted the importance of international peace and security, advocating for stronger global cooperation to address conflicts and promote stability. He urged member states to embrace science, technology, and digital innovation as tools for growth and resilience, especially in developing nations.
Recognizing the potential of youth, he advocated for empowering young people as catalysts for change. He also called for reforming global governance, including the UN Security Council, to ensure that decision-making reflects the realities of today and amplifies the voices of vulnerable nations.
President Bio concluded by reaffirming the g7+ commitment to a future of equity, solidarity, justice, and peace, ensuring no nation is left behind—aligning with the summit’s vision of a more inclusive and sustainable global future.
