The National Sports Authority (NSA) has strongly denounced the unfortunate incident that cast a shadow over the FA Cup Final clash between Bo Rangers and East End Lions at the Port Loko Field on Saturday, May 4th, 2024. Expressing deep concern over the unsportsmanlike behavior witnessed during the match, the NSA reiterated its unwavering stance against all forms of violence in sports.

In a statement released promptly after the incident, the NSA reaffirmed its dedication to fostering sportsmanship and unity among the nation’s populace. Emphasizing that sports should be a platform for nurturing camaraderie and healthy competition, the Authority condemned acts of violence as antithetical to the principles of fair play and respect.

“We are deeply troubled by the regrettable events during the FA Cup Final,” stated an NSA spokesperson. “As an Authority, we unequivocally reject any violence in sports. Such conduct has no place on the field and undermines the spirit of the game.”

The NSA underscored the necessity of a thorough investigation into the incident, urging relevant authorities to expedite the process and disclose their findings. Stressing accountability, the Authority emphasised the importance of holding responsible parties answerable for their actions and preventing similar occurrences in the future.

Highlighting the paramount importance of fair play and integrity, the NSA called upon the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to take decisive measures in response to the incident. It urged the SLFA to contemplate relocating the remaining FA Cup Final matches to a neutral venue to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators alike.

“We implore the SLFA to act promptly and decisively in addressing this issue,” emphasized the NSA. “It is imperative that the remaining FA Cup matches be conducted in a secure environment, devoid of any threats of violence or disruption.”
