In Freetown, Sierra Leone, Conrad Sackey, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, has launched a robust initiative to tackle academic dishonesty. Leading a key meeting at the MBSSE conference hall, Sackey, alongside MPs and WAEC Bill 2024 consultant Dr. Kwabena Oteng Acheampong, discussed rampant exam malpractice and fraudulent continuous assessment scores.
The meeting emphasized the need for educational reforms under the new WAEC Bill, focusing on Section 33. Chief Examination Officer Professor Yatta Kanu highlighted the issue of unsubmitted assessment scores, while Hon. Abdul S. Marray-Conteh and Hon. Mohamed Papa Bangura proposed stringent penalties for tampering with scores.
Minister Sackey endorsed these proposals, advocating for tougher penalties, including exam fee coverage for affected students and a one-year ban on schools that fail to upload assessment scores. The WAEC Bill 2024 aims to enhance integrity and accountability in Sierra Leone’s examination system, restoring trust and fairness in educational assessments.
