Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has called on traffic police officers to maintain high standards of professionalism and service delivery within the Directorate of Road Safety and Traffic Management.
Addressing Divisional Traffic Officers (DTOs) and their teams on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Western Area, IGP Sellu emphasized the importance of professionalism in both appearance and conduct. He stated that being neatly dressed in uniform during traffic duties instills confidence in the officers’ ability to perform their responsibilities efficiently and professionally. He highlighted the police’s role as representatives of state authority and advised officers to avoid using mobile phones and taking pictures for social media while on duty, stressing the need for improved public interactions.
IGP Sellu spoke about the ongoing transformation of the Sierra Leone Police from a force to a service, urging officers to enhance their capacities and professional skills. He suggested handling minor offences with caution and taking decisive action against serious violations. He also encouraged regular highway patrols on motorcycles to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Moijueh, Director of Road Safety and Traffic Management, thanked IGP Sellu for his leadership and guidance. He assured the Inspector General that corruption allegations would be addressed and pledged to communicate this message to Divisional Traffic Officers across the provinces to ensure accountability and effective service delivery.
