A Nigerian woman, Lisha Dachor, aged 19, claims to have painted over 4,000 nails within 72 hours in a bid to break the world record. Armed with a nail brush, she swiftly maneuvered through an events center in Plateau State, Northern Nigeria, embellishing hundreds of fingernails with vibrant hues of blue, pink, and purple varnish.
Her nail-painting marathon reached a suspenseful climax on Wednesday. According to Guinness World Record (GWR) regulations, for Dachor’s endeavor to be recognized, she must paint a minimum of 60 fingernails per hour.
Awaiting GWR’s evaluation post submission of evidence, Dachor expressed her motivation for the challenge: to challenge stereotypes surrounding young mothers like herself. “I want to give people hope, especially single mothers because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she conveyed to the BBC.
With nearly three years of professional experience as a nail technician, Dachor also aims to spotlight women from Northern Nigeria and bring recognition to her home state, Plateau. Situated at the crossroads of Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim North and largely Christian South, Plateau has endured prolonged periods of unrest and interethnic conflict, resulting in significant casualties.
Dachor’s aspiration to rewrite perceptions and showcase the capabilities of women, particularly those from marginalised communities, underscores her determination to make a difference beyond her remarkable feat in nail artistry.
