Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is hosting leaders from the world’s seven richest nations at the G7 summit in Italy. Representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US are convening to address pressing global issues, such as the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
In addition to the G7 countries, leaders from Africa and the Indo-Pacific region are also participating, focusing on enhancing economic cooperation with developing nations. Although the G7 does not have legislative authority, its decisions have historically influenced global policies, such as endorsing a multinational company tax deal in 2021.
This year’s summit aims to finalize a plan to utilize frozen Russian assets, potentially raising billions of dollars to support Ukraine.
