The Feed Salone Initiative, the country’s agricultural project, requires $1.6 billion by 2028 to address critical challenges in food security, productivity, and private investment. In 2024, $257.3 million is needed, but there is a $116.6 million funding gap.
The budget includes $457.8 million for rice production, $334.1 million for poultry, and $109.9 million for modern farming techniques. An additional $167.2 million is allocated for financial access programs to empower farmers. The gap is most severe in rice production and financial access, with deficits of $21.9 million and $30 million, respectively.
To close the gap, the government plans a blended financing model, combining public funds, development partner contributions, and private-sector investment, including de-risking measures and incentivizing agricultural investments.
Feed Salone aims to reduce import dependency, enhance food security, and stimulate economic growth, but its success depends on securing the necessary funding and fostering strong public-private partnerships.
