Hon. Philip Tetema Tondonch, the former Deputy Minister of Works in Sierra Leone, is under investigation for alleged deceptive practices involving a German investor. The controversy dates back to 2022, centered around Hon. Tondonch’s role in a disputed land transaction that has financially impacted the investor. The investor had sought to establish a modern electronics warehouse in Sierra Leone, aiming to boost local employment opportunities.

The issue arose when Hon. Tondonch purportedly offered a plot at Fisher Lane to the investor for $50,000, requesting a $10,000 down payment. However, it was later revealed that the land belonged to a civil servant, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the transaction. Despite acknowledging the debt and expressing willingness to reimburse the funds, the matter remains unresolved to the investor’s satisfaction.

When questioned at his office in the Youyi Building, Hon. Tondonch expressed dismay over the situation, stating he had offered an alternative piece of land to resolve the dispute amicably. However, the investor declined the offer, insisting on full compensation for their losses.

The case has sparked public scrutiny and calls for transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone’s governance. The investor, disappointed by the alleged misconduct, seeks justice, raising concerns about the country’s adherence to legal standards and commitment to the rule of law.
