The 4th Triennial Synod of the Anglican Diocese kicked off on November 12, 2024, at Saint Augustine Church in Hill Station, Freetown. Diocesan Bishop Thomas Arnold Ikunika Wilson led the opening, urging a renewed commitment to faith and active community engagement.

Drawing on the theme from Exodus 4:2, Bishop Wilson encouraged clergy and congregation to use their God-given gifts for His glory, calling for a shift from comfort zones to impactful outreach. He highlighted essential qualities for church leadership, including godly character, accountability, and adaptability, and emphasized the need for leaders committed to God’s mission.

The Bishop stressed evangelism, describing it as crucial, and suggested rebranding the Diocese with updated mission strategies, collaboration with other churches, and constitutional revisions. He also urged for active roles in tackling climate change, protecting children, and addressing social issues, commending government efforts against sexual and gender-based violence.

Further, Bishop Wilson proposed creating a diocesan radio station and website to enhance digital outreach, recognizing the potential of technology to spread the Gospel. The Synod, which runs until November 17, 2024, will explore these initiatives as part of the Diocese’s future mission and outreach.
