In a press release dated June 18, 2024, the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party announced its decision to resume participation in the Tripartite Committee, despite facing ongoing challenges and a lack of cooperation from the SLPP government and the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). The APC underscored its commitment to electoral justice and democratic principles, criticizing the ECSL for allegedly using unfounded justifications to conceal electoral malpractices.
The APC accused the SLPP government and ECSL of failing to produce or verify disaggregated data from the June 24, 2023, elections, suggesting that this refusal indicates potential discrepancies that contradict the figures announced by ECSL Chairman Mohamed Konneh. The APC claims that credible evidence of over-voting and other discrepancies exposes the announced election results as fabricated. They asserted that, aside from the ECSL, all other participants in the June 2023 elections are aware that the results were manipulated.
Despite the ECSL’s actions, the APC vowed to continue pursuing truth and justice, and to collaborate with ECOWAS and AU mediators who visited their party office today. The party reassured its supporters that their temporary suspension from the Tripartite Committee was a strategic decision made in the best interests of the party and its supporters. This suspension was intended to highlight the challenges in accessing ECSL data and verification documents, which should be accessible to all citizens.
The APC’s temporary withdrawal drew national and international attention to ECSL’s lack of transparency and unwillingness to cooperate, aiming to pressure ECSL into adhering to democratic norms and respecting the true will of the people. The APC expressed gratitude for the unwavering support and patience of its supporters during this period and reaffirmed its dedication to fighting for electoral justice and upholding Sierra Leone’s democratic values. The party vowed to continue striving for transparent and accountable electoral processes.
