On November 1, 2024, the National Sport Authority (NSA) pledged 3.5 billion Leones to support the 2024-2025 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League, an increase from last year’s 2.8 billion. The announcement was made at the NSA’s Signal Hill Road office, where Acting General Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Benson Bawoh, introduced the new Female Premier League Board to NSA leaders.
Bawoh underscored the government’s role as the league’s primary sponsor, highlighting President Bio’s commitment to empowering women in sports. He praised the appointment of Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, PhD, as NSA Chief, noting his leadership aligns with the President’s vision.
NSA Chief Abdulai welcomed the board members and expressed the importance of women’s football for youth development, linking it to President Bio’s Big Five Game-Changers, especially job creation. He emphasized transparency and accountability, urging the board to manage the funds responsibly.
Abdulai also called for equal pay in sports, believing it would attract more women to sports and address social issues like prostitution and substance abuse. The board responded with gratitude for the NSA’s support, pledging transparency and collaboration to elevate women’s football in Sierra Leone.
