Sierra Leone’s historic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics experienced a setback as 17-year-old judo competitor Mariama Koroma faced a tough defeat.
In the Women’s Elimination Round of 16 for the 57 kg category, Koroma competed against 36-year-old Taiwanese veteran Lien Chen-ling. The match, which lasted only 1 minute and 6 seconds, highlighted the significant experience gap between the two athletes.
Despite her strong effort, Koroma was unable to overcome the seasoned Chen-ling. This defeat marks a challenging start for Sierra Leone’s Olympic campaign, which had garnered significant interest due to the notable age difference between the competitors.
Chen-ling’s victory underscores the tough competition faced by newcomers like Koroma, as Sierra Leone looks to build on this experience for future successes.
