The Mpox virus, also known as monkeypox, has resurged globally, causing alarm as multiple countries report new cases. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is particularly hard-hit, with approximately 18,000 cases and at least 500 deaths, over 70% of which are among children.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is actively responding to the outbreak amidst the DRC’s ongoing insurgency. Efforts are focused on implementing new strategies to manage the spread of the virus in conflict-affected areas. Dr. Samuel Boland, the incident manager for Mpox at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, emphasized the need for targeted interventions and increased support to mitigate the impact of the virus in the most vulnerable regions.
