The Police Commissioner of the East, Andrew Mustapha Kamara, and the Kenema City Mayor led a joint patrol from June 19 to 30, 2024, to ensure peace and stability in the city. This “show of strength” exercise, organized by security officials, decision-makers, and community stakeholders, aimed to reassure residents of their safety.
The patrol included the Mayor of Kenema City, the Office of National Security, Brigade Commander of 2 Infantry Brigade, Regional Commander of Sierra Leone Correctional Center, Regional Commander of Sierra Leone National Fire Force, Sierra Leone Road Traffic Authorities, Civil Society Organizations, and the Press. They traversed Kenema’s main streets, promoting peace.
The Sierra Leone Police Media Unit-East reported that the police commissioner and Local Unit Commander CSP Edison Vandi have been leading joint patrols and community engagements to secure strategic locations in and around Kenema City. Currently, the Eastern Region remains peaceful with no significant incidents.
Residents have expressed appreciation for the heightened security presence, noting that it has fostered a sense of safety and community well-being. Local business owners also reported an increase in patronage, attributing it to the enhanced sense of security provided by the joint patrols.
In addition to the patrols, community meetings were held to discuss concerns and suggestions from residents. These forums allowed citizens to engage directly with security officials, enhancing trust and cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies.
