On October 24, 2024, Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr inaugurated the newly built Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School. This modern, two-story facility, funded by Sustain for Life with Freetown City Council (FCC) support, features 10 classrooms, a computer room, staff area, restrooms, and a canteen, offering a quality learning environment for up to 300 students.
Built on the site of a former community center prone to flooding, this initiative supports FCC’s Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives 2024-2028 Development Plan, focusing on education and informal settlement upgrades. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr praised Sustain for Life’s role, urging stakeholders to maintain the school as a hub of excellence and environmental awareness.
Deputy Minister of Education Mamusu Massaquoi highlighted the project’s alignment with national efforts to ensure equitable education access. Mabinty Kamara, a local parent, expressed her relief at having a nearby school, saying the new facility eases her financial burden.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr was joined by Deputy Mayor Kweku Lisk Esq., council members, Teaching Service Commission representatives, and community stakeholders at the ceremony.
