Passengers at Kenya’s main international airport are stranded after workers staged a protest on Wednesday against a planned deal between the government and India’s Adani Group. The demonstration has grounded flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The government’s build-and-operate agreement with Adani Group includes airport renovation, a new runway, and terminal construction, with the group managing the facility for 30 years. However, the Kenya Airport Workers Union fears the deal will cause job losses and worsen employment conditions.
Kenya Airways has warned of delays and cancellations due to the strike. The High Court has temporarily halted the deal pending a legal review.
