Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, returned to the British Houses of Parliament to deliver the closing remarks at the World Humanitarian Forum (WHF), just days after being named Africa’s First Lady of the Year 2024. Her address, titled “Addressing Global Crises: The Role of Humanitarian Diplomacy in a Fragmented Era,” underscored the urgency of coordinated global efforts in tackling crises like pandemics, conflicts, and geopolitical tensions.

Dr. Fatima Bio called for prioritizing humanitarian diplomacy, stressing the need for immediate action over dialogue. She outlined five key pillars for advancing this cause: protecting civilians, ensuring aid access, advocating for international humanitarian law, fostering partnerships between governments and NGOs, and cutting through bureaucratic challenges.

Her speech, a highlight of the forum, resonated with global leaders like Qatar’s Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Lolwah Al-Khater, and Lord Tariq Ahmad, KCMG. Moderated by Baroness Shaista Gohir, the session echoed Dr. Bio’s call for global unity and decisive action to avert catastrophic consequences.
