On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor, inspected hybrid electricity installations in Moyamba. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of both the Moyamba Township Electrification Project, funded by the Government of Sierra Leone, and the 1MW Solar Power Plant, funded by the World Bank.

The Seven Districts Electrification Project, launched between 2020 and 2021, aims to provide electricity to multiple townships, including Moyamba. The infrastructure in Moyamba, including poles, cables, and a switching station, is now complete. Additionally, 2MW of Diesel Thermal Power Plants have been installed. To ensure reliable electricity access, plans include a long-term rental scheme for meters.

The 1MW Solar Power Plant is 95% complete, with the Battery Energy Storage System expected to be delivered soon. An EPC Contractor will operate the plant, and training will be provided for EGTC staff.

These efforts are part of ongoing energy sector reforms that align with the Feed Salone agenda for sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
