Director of Communications at the Electricity Distributions and Supply Authority, Sahr Nepor has said bandits are the current cause of the electricity challenges Freetown is facing.

Speaking to the Epic Morning show, Nepor said they have been preparing to give adequate electricity during December to match up with the demand.

“We know the demand for electricity increases during the festive period and this something we have been preparing for with our engineers. We had done maintenance and other necessary work. But the attack on our station in Kingtom is something we couldn’t have possibly prepared for” Nepor said.

“Bandits attacked our station, they were repelled but Transformer 2 was damaged, this where we evacuate power from at that damaged transformer is 27MW that is down in our system” he added.

His reaction comes in the wake of scathing criticisms from the public for spending Christmas, and New Years day in the dark.

Work on the damaged transformer has since been going on. Nepor said they are hoping to turn on the lights between today and tomorrow (Tuesday).
