Former Leone Stars forward Kei Kamara scored his 145th MLS goal, tying Landon Donovan for second-most in league history, as LAFC played to a 1-1 draw with Austin on a rainy Wednesday night.

Kamara’s dramatic equalizer came in the 90th minute when he outjumped his defender to head home Mateusz Bogusz’s corner kick. This goal prevented LAFC from being held scoreless for the first time since March 16. Kamara also made history by becoming the first player in MLS to score in 18 different seasons. The all-time record of 171 goals is held by Chris Wondolowski. Kamara is one of just 11 players in MLS history to surpass the 100-goal mark.

After a brief offseason, LAFC signed Kamara to address their need for consistent goal-scoring, securing him through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.

Kamara has excelled both on and off the pitch. A two-time MLS All-Star, he was recognized in 2015 for his career-high 22 goals with Columbus Crew and in 2023 as one of Don Garber’s Commissioner’s picks for his season performance (5G, 2A) and his achievement of playing for 10 different MLS teams.

In addition to his on-field success, Kamara was honored as the 2015 MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year and received the FIFPro Merit Award (alongside Michael Lahoud) for his work with the Schools for Salone initiative. His Heart Shaped Hands Foundation is dedicated to educational outreach in Sierra Leone.
