On June 11, 2024, Minister of Social Welfare Melrose Karminty participated in the opening ceremony of the 17th session of the United Nations Conference on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York. The minister is set to deliver a national statement on Sierra Leone’s commitments to promoting disability issues. In line with the decisions made by the Conference of States Parties on June 15, 2023, this session will include the election of nine members to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
